ET WORKSHOP | BEYOND UNDERGROUND [ILS 2025 – VILLARD 27]
travelling architecture workshop | Cagliari, Lula
On 27–28–29 November 2025, the second ET WORKSHOP | BEYOND UNDERGROUND [ILS 2025 – Villard 27] will take place, implementing the institutional agreement between the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (RAS) and the University of Cagliari (UNICA), aimed at supporting the coordination and promotion of Italy’s bid to establish the Einstein Telescope (ET) at the disused mining site of Sos Enattos, in the territory of Lula in Sardinia. The Einstein Telescope (ET) is an innovative scientific infrastructure of European interest consisting of the world’s most advanced third-generation gravitational wave detector.
These days will see the participation of around a hundred students from 14 architecture schools engaged in the 27th edition of the Villard seminar on the study of inland areas of Italy. The Einstein Telescope infrastructure is a unique case study in Italy, prompting reflection on the relationship between underground infrastructure and surface architecture, with a view to integrating the telescope into the territorial and landscape context of an inland area of Sardinia.
